This is a written-up look back at 21 to 27 September 2026. I am writing it on 12 October from our commit history, not as a live diary. Period covered: 21-27 September 2026.

In short

  • The product page got new hero layouts and a block list, so you decide what sits above the fold.
  • Shop cards now adapt to the type of product they show.
  • "Make video" now renders on your own device, from a short guided set of questions.

The main thing: a product page you can arrange

The product page is where most buyers decide. Until this week its top section, the hero, had one fixed shape. In the app on our staging branch the hero now comes in several layouts, and each part of it can be sized on its own.

The big change is the hero block list. The hero is a set of parts: title, price, description, option picker, quantity, buy button, feature lines, and more. A new "What shows" control is the one place to switch each part on or off. A product can follow the theme's default list, or you can customise it for that product, with a Reset button that returns you to the default. The default list paints the page exactly as it looked before, so existing pages do not change.

Other hero work:

  • A row of detail chips under the title (for example "Online", "Beginner friendly").
  • An optional value on each feature line, such as what a bonus is worth.
  • Quantity, a Buy Now button, an option-style choice and phone thumbnails, following the controls Shopify's product section gives its merchants.
  • On a phone, the Share button floats in the corner of the photo.
  • Desktop thumbnails sit in equal columns.

A buyer who already bought the product now sees a thin strip above the hero: "You bought this on a date, View order". For a booking it says when the next session is and links to manage it. For an event it says how many tickets they hold and links to them.

Shop cards that know what they sell

The shop page lists products in cards. We built five shared card designs: Compact, Cover, Spotlight, Ticket and Headline. Each one adapts to the product type, so a course, a service and an event do not all show the same facts. The button words change by type too, taken from a translated list, with a Custom option. In the editor, the shop's parts are individually selectable, and clicking a product photo on the canvas opens a small popup to frame it. A buyer who filters down to nothing now lands somewhere useful instead of an empty page.

Make video, on your own device

The "Make video" tool now renders the video in your browser instead of on our server. It starts with a guided set of questions, fills a template, then lets you tweak it. Templates render at square, portrait, tall-phone and widescreen shapes. Fixed words inside a video follow the language you pick. The product shows from the first frame and every photo appears once.

Other things built this week

  • Trainer pages: each trainer can have a public page with their own offerings, and a creator can edit title, images and name in one save.
  • Booking: your Google calendar now blocks booking slots. You can require a deposit on a booking product. A trainer is told when their slot is confirmed, cancelled or moved.
  • Live chat: the chat button's image can be fitted and framed. Visitors show the nearest big city and a flag. You can rename a chat without touching the buyer's name. The widget can offer starter question chips.
  • Theme builder: the side panels now use plain labels and a tooltip on every control.
  • Support and campaigns: a number of small improvements, which I will not list one by one.

What it means for a coach or academy owner

A coach selling a camp, a course and a one-to-one session can now give each its own product page shape. You decide whether the page leads with the price, the schedule or the photo. If you run sessions with several coaches, each can have a page, and your calendar keeps double bookings out. A parent who has already booked sees their booking when they return, which cuts "where is my ticket" messages.

Look at the Academy for the team side, and at pricing for what each plan includes.

What is next

The following week is about AI: connecting outside AI assistants to your store, with you approving what they change.

Frequently asked questions

Do existing product pages change?

No. The default block list paints the page exactly as it looked before. A new layout or a customised list only applies when you choose it, and Reset returns a product to the theme default.

What are the five shop card designs?

Compact, Cover, Spotlight, Ticket and Headline. Each adapts to the product type, so a course, a service and an event do not show the same facts.

Where does Make video render?

In your own browser, on your device, instead of on our server. It starts from a few guided questions and a filled template that you can tweak.
